Germany is not famous for its delicious bread and baked goods without reason. Munich is especially known for the pretzels or Brezn, as locals call them. Nevertheless, there are only a few bakeries left that actually bake their breads, rolls and sweet pastries locally in their bakery. I can proudly say that in my neighbourhood near Westpark there is one of the best bakeries that make Brezn, cake and pastries themselves – fresh and local.
Bäckerei Gattinger is a bit hidden in a residential area and everybody who lives nearby gets their bread there. On Sunday mornings I meet my neighbours in sweatpants and slippers while getting rolls and croissants for breakfast at home. There is also a small café inside the bakery, so you can enjoy your treats with a cup of coffee right where they were made. If you happen to be around and want to try some traditional German bakery goods, don’t miss Bäckerei Gattinger.
