In 2017 a new little gem of a café opened up, a little hidden in a side street between the metro stations Poccistraße and Implerstraße: Café Erika. I really like the Scandinavian, clean and chic interior in turquoise with wooden and yellow details, but what I love about Erika are definitely the homemade cakes. I can never decide between the classics like the marble cake, something more fancy like the strawberry elderflower cake or the vegan cakes and tartes – every cake I’ve tried so far was simply delicious – and the world has started to realize that: one of the café ladies was on a German baking show on television and presented how to make her Hot Milk Cake with Caramel frosting that you can sometimes get at the café as well.
If you don’t fancy a piece of cake (why wouldn’t you though?), you can choose from the weekly menu (Wednesday – Friday), enjoy waffles and sandwiches or a cinnamon bun or just browse the cook books on the shelves. If the weather is good, you should go check out the cute patio to sip your coffee. But don’t try to go there on Mondays or Tuesdays (like I regularly do) – Café Erika is open from Wednesday to Sunday.
