What I love about flea markets is that not only do you browse stalls and objects, but also centuries and lives. All the things have a story to tell, a person who bought them, received them as gifts, loved it them or hated them. Every visit at the flea market is like exploring the past and discovering new stories and lives.
Furthermore, when visiting the Hofflohmärkte you can discover different parts of Munich in quite a unique way: people open up their backyards and house entrances, set up tables and clothes racks and sell their stuff to every visitor. I love to walk through the streets of different parts of Munich, getting a glimpse of all the houses and backyards, imagining what it’s like to live there – and of course finding some unique pieces and bargains!
The best thing about it: even as a local I discover new places, cafés and spots every time I visit a Hofflohmarkt in a part of Munich I usually don’t go to very often! There is a Hofflohmarkt at a different part of Munich during most weekends from May until October every year. You can find all the dates for the different quarters plus the map that leads you to the participating houses on their website.
