Jessas belongs to a trinity of great spots in Munich formed by Jessas, Maria and Josef (Jesus, Mary and Joseph) which are located right next to each other in the Glockenbach quarter.
Jessas is an ice cream place which is, besides the Balla Beni, my favourite ice cream bar in Munich. It is easy to reach when strolling along the Isar embankment or if you walk along the Glockenbach canal. It is an ice cream take away only, but on sunny days the little square is full of ice cream lovers sitting in doorways and kerbs or mixing with the people from the Maria Cafe next door.
There is usually a choice of six to twelve different flavours and the range often changes. I like the fact that most of the flavours have a little twist so expect to find things like Black Forest gateau, cocolate (chocolate with coconut), lemon-basil, vanilla-orange or milk-mint. I know, especially the latter sounds odd but it just tastes so good and is one of the top sellers I believe. If you are unsure you can try just a small spoon-full which they always offer when you order your scoops. At Jessas they do a few “straight” flavours too, especially their chocolate is just h-e-a-v-e-n!
But careful, once tempted you may become a firm Jessas believer and never want to go back to your normal Italian ice cream place around the corner. Don’t say I haven’t warned you!
