Butterflies are beautiful, rare, fragile, elegant and ageless. And so are the rarities you find in this small furniture store called Papillon (butterfly). It’s like a trip back in time, all objects are in good shape and partly seem to be unused. A friend of mine bought a seventies style tulip table with four chairs for his kitchen and I purchased a standard lamp with a glass bubble.
The lamp looked like the one my parents had in their living room 30 years ago. There is a reason why I have such a good memory of that lamp, because every time someone stood up from the sofa they’d hit their head on the glass bubble which would fall down, but didn’t break. Fortunately, it now hangs in my kitchen.
The collection of fifties to seventies furniture and accessories is huge, it could also be a design museum. Good to know, that beautiful and simple design will never be old-fashioned.
My conclusion: be fast, if you want to take the flair of the seventies to your home, because like butterflies the design classics disappear as quickly as they arrived at Papillon.
