An old ferry from one of the big lakes south of Munich is now sitting on an old railway bridge in the city. What for?
This will be a culture hotspot of the city. But nobody knows how this will ever happen. This is a large boat on a small bridge with difficult access. But it will because the guy behind it is as crazy as nobody else in the culture scene of Munich. He already has an old train which became a place for culture with a summer position in the museum quarter and a winter position vis à vis the slaughter houses. He has a few old circus tents which serve as an open house for newcomer musicians during the long Bavarian winters. And then there was this beautiful ferry from the lake Ammersee, which had to be replaced by a new one.
All he had to do was to convince the state of Bavaria to sell the ship to him, the city of Munich to give him an old railway bridge that can carry the load, the banks to give him a lot of money and the transportation company to cut the ship horizontally in half and have the two parts transported by night on closed roads to Munich, lift them to the bridge and weld them together again. Easy, isn’t it?
Already now it is a place to go, surreal enough to wonder how this all could happen. What a crazy idea!
Update May 2018: opening soon.
