I honestly do not know when this cross was built there, or by whom or why. I was simply looking for a quiet path to enjoy my long walk on a Sunday afternoon and escape the tourist masses at Olympiapark and, suddenly, there it was in front of me.
This is a big wooden cross that stands on the hill east of the Olympiaberg, visited by the tourists who want to enjoy the views to the city and – weather permitting – the Alps. Contrary to its big, famous brother, there is almost no one on this hill. This is a real pity because one can also enjoy the beautiful view from here, plus the peacefulness of nature.
Even if I do not know (and could not find) the story behind this big cross, this spot is one of my favourites, because it is the definition of a hidden spot. It is quiet, ideal for a nice picnic or relaxing after a long day, and best of all: even if it lies on one of the most touristic spots in Munich, it isn’t mentioned in any of the touristic guides and the tourists ignore its existence.
