Here are some tips, to see Wiesn aka Oktoberfest in a traditional and modern way!
Before: first do your daily workout with one arm, usually the one you use for holding your glass, because the mugs are pretty heavy. Then rent a Dirndl or a Lederhosn (traditional Bavarian dresses) at bavarian-outfitters.de. Have a Hendl (half grilled chicken) at Lindwurmstüberl (Metro Station Goetheplatz U3/U6) on their rooftop terrace. From there it’s just a five minute walk to Oktoberfest. Follow the crowd.
At Oktoberfest: I recommend you to go to the “Oide Wiesn”. It’s the traditional Oktoberfest, as it was 100 years ago. Have your first beer there. The beer is a cooperation by all six Munich breweries. Now you are prepared for fun. Find your direction to “Teufelsrad” (devil’s wheel). Have you ever seen drunken people on a centrifuge? You will never forget that image. I guess after so much laughing you’re hungry again. Visit the “Ochsenbraterei” and have a dish with Ox (every Ox has its own name). I like the “Ochsensemmel” (bun with grilled Ox). As usual you have a beer with that. Don’t forget to toast with locals!!!
After: I always go to Substanz. It’s ten minutes away, you can walk there or take a Rikscha, but they are very expensive. You have to stand in line for a while, but it’s worth it if you like rock and alternative music.
