Founded by an immigrant Colombian doctor disillusioned with the state of his home country, Terraza 7 is a live music venue and Jackson Heights community center---a culturally diverse hub for local art, political expressions and, like an old Viennese coffee house, a place for locals to sit and discuss over a drink.
Located in Queens between Elmhurst and Jackson Heights, amidst the most diverse population of immigrants in America, the doctor, Freddy Castiblanco, seems committed to his community base and its values.
Local jazz musicians, songwriters, folklorists, experimentalists and others hang out at Terraza 7 exchanging knowledge and ideas in their pursuit of music and art.
Every night on the 2nd floor anfiteatro there could be live music, a literary event, film screening, campaign stop or workshop.
Cuban Express plays often and, at $15 admission, is a bargain.
And if you're really lucky, you might catch Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (referred to in the press as AOC) on stage (pictured).
Most performances begin at 8pm following happy hour from 4-8pm. Lots of $7 local beer, including: Belgian Pale Ale- LIC Beer Project, 1933 Pilsner single cut, Mahogany Ale single cut, Chocolate Stout single cut, 18-Watt IPA single cut.
