92nd Street Y may not sound like a cool and interesting place, but rather a local YMCA and community center. Quite the opposite! 92nd Street Y is a cultural center that connects people of New York with culture and the arts by hosting events and conversations with entertainers, authors, scholars and political figures. All events are intimate and held in one of two under-a-thousand seat theaters inside 92Y.
As someone who works in book publishing, I have booked quite a few high-profile authors at 92Y and as a fan, attended many as well. Events have included such a diverse group of people and some you wouldn’t expect to witness at this upper east side renowned institution: Wonder Years Reunion with the entire cast, fashion maven Anna Wintour, celebrity chef Bobby Flay, singer Aretha Franklin, actor Jamie Foxx and even former President Bill Clinton. If those have a book coming out, chances are a meet and greet with signing is happening.
Tickets for the more popular talks should be purchased as early as possible. Tickets are very affordable for the types of events offered ranging anywhere from $ 15 – $ 100 for the high profile celebrity Q&As. Browse their website as they post events as far out as Spring 2018.
