Is it a dumpling? Is it ice cream? It’s actually both! This scrumptious SOHO ice cream shop is super unique. A Japanese-style dessert, Mochidoki offers delicate and delicious serving of ice cream wrapped in a light rice cake that can be devoured in one or two bites. I organically found this place while seeking shelter from an unexpected downpour and discovered an ice cream shop I didn’t know I needed.
They have many fun flavors like turmeric hot honey and apple miso caramel (available seasonally) that toe the line between sweet and savory, to classics like salted caramel, pistachio, and strawberry. Check the website for their rotating seasonal offers. But if you came this far, live a little and try a flavor you never tried before. You can eat a couple inside their small store, snack outside while people-watching in Manhattan or take a box home and sample their many flavors. Mochidoki even delivers nationwide. Bite into one and enjoy ice cream without the annoyance of dripping in the summer heat like it does in a cone nor melting in the cup. Or try as a light snack on a chilly afternoon. The cafe also offers coffee, tea and matcha drinks.
