Most people know about the New York City buses and rail systems, but few know about the ferries that have opened up routes across the city. Though there aren’t a vast amount of stops or routes, the ferry is by far one of the more enjoyable ways to get around the city. The ferries are operated by a different company than the trains, however, the tickets cost the same. For USD $2.75 per ride, you can get from location to location comfortably and without traffic.
The ferries are great because they are scenic and allow you to see the city from a perspective you wouldn’t normally see: from the river. They are actually quite fast and a very comfortable way to commute or to get to scenic locations including places like the Rockaways and Roosevelt Island. There’s even a bar on board for the longer trips that serve drinks and food! The ferries are also so much less crowded than any of the other modes of transit, even during rush hour!
