Located along Hudson River Park across the West Side Highway from Greenwich Village lies Pier 45, a breathtaking oasis from the metropolitan confines of Manhattan. Featuring panoramic riverside views of the Hoboken skyline, a long wooden dock, tables and benches, and a spacious grassy lawn, the pier is a relaxing place to hang out.
My favorite time to go is just before sunset during summertime. New York sunsets are beautiful, and if you catch them from Christopher Street Pier, you can see the sun setting behind skyscrapers amidst purple orange skies (if you happen to be lucky that night.)
I love that the pier is a gathering place for a myriad of individuals like runners, bikers, friends, visitors, and lovers of all ages, ethnicities, genders etc. Historically, Christopher Street Pier has always been a safe haven and gathering place for the LGBTQ community. It is also home to fun activities like riverside tango dancing and summertime outdoor movie screenings.
