After spending an afternoon at the FIT Museum (check out the FIT museum article), I stumbled upon Showplace a few blocks away. Oh the joy of living in New York, when every street has a slew of hidden shops. In the case of this antique store, it’s not simply a hidden gem; it’s a treasure chest that’s hiding thousands of magnificent jewels!
The showplace is three floors lined with galleries selling and auctioning antiques – everything from mesmerizing disco balls to Chinese snuff boxes to lapis lazuli jewelry cases. If you need some new digs for your house or props for a movie you’re filming, this place probably has what you’re looking for. The price tags are a little steep, but it’s fun to wander around even if you’re not planning to buy anything.
If you’re into vintage lingerie, pop by Illisa’s shop at gallery 206 and get ready to be overwhelmed by endless silk and lace.
