Ever wonder if you would make it as a spy? Want to get in touch with your inner James Bond? You need to make your way over to Spyscape in the Midtown West section of New York City. This place is half interactive spy exam, half spy museum, and a super unique and fun experience for the whole family.
Throughout your walk through the exhibit, you’ll encounter question booths that will assess your qualities as a spy in various ways: your willingness to take risk through a game, personality questions, and puzzles. You’ll also be walked through several specialty areas, like Encryption, Surveillance, Deception, Hacking, Intelligence, and Special Ops, that go over the history of that area of spydom, with real artifacts, and interactive quizzes and games that test your aptitude in that field. You’ll learn how FBI agents can tell if suspects are lying, how hackers work their magic, and how encrypted messages were used in World Word II to secure an Allied victory. At the end of the experience, you’ll learn which position in the spy world is best suited for you based all of your answers — there are 10 positions, from Surveillance Officer to Agent Handler (me!) or Special Operations Officer.
There’s a great gift shop and bookstore too, featuring fun spy kits for the kids and fascinating books on spies and intelligence operations around the world. It’s a fun way to learn and play, especially when the unpredictable New York City weather takes a turn!
