This India/China-twist restaurant charms, stylistically veering away from all the other nearby Pakistani and Indian restaurants.
Billing itself ‘Desi-Wala Chinese’ the menu offers two levels of lunch specials ($11.95 and $9.95), lots of noodle variants and temptations such as Bhangra Noodles, Turmeric Banana Leaf Fish, Darjeeling Hakka Lo-Mein, Grandma’s Wonton and for take-away, dumplings from Calcutta’s famous Terreti Bazaar. For a hot summer night take-away dessert, try caramelized tempura bananas with ice cream.
There are many restaurants in this three block stretch, all similar yet with a fairly wide range of prices. Here, I think the price gets you a décor upgrade and access to the imaginative menu, well worth a try.
Nearby and walkable is Madison Square Park with its famous Flatiron Building and Empire State Building views, and Strand Books.
