The New York Botanical Garden – Nature in the city

New York city is dubbed The Concrete Jungle because of its towering skyline. However, there are beautiful places in the city aside from Central Park, where you’re still bound to crowds and city noise.

The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx is like a museum showcasing the most beautiful seasonal flowers and landscapes that you wouldn’t expect to find in a big city. The secret is to go Saturday morning when access to the gardens is free from 09:00 – 10:00, but you can stay as long you like. Perfect for couples, families or even for those who just need a little alone time away from the big city noise.

It’s easy to get lost in the 250-acre scenery. Walking through the Thain Family Forest in the summer is like hiking through a rain forest. Spring is the perfect time to see the Rockefeller Rose Garden when roses are in full bloom. Fall is the most beautiful because of the changing of the leaves. The NYBG also houses a waterfall and trail through the wetlands.

There are other exhibits that include an extra fee, but the regular admission alone is enough to take your breath away…or breathe more of it! There’s enough fresh clean aromatic air that NYC lacks. The NYGB is right off the Fordham Station stop on the Metro-North Railroad making travel between Manhattan and the Bronx much easier and less stressful than the subway.
