Do you like hot chocolate? Sorry… silly question.
Cocoa is Oslo’s first “cocoa bar” specialising in, you guessed it, hot chocolate. It’s quite surprising that this hasn’t really been around longer, as many people would consider hot chocolate as the ultimate cold winter comfort drink.
Cocoa is located right beside Birkelunden park in the bohemian area of Grunnerløkka and is a great spot to both escape the winter air, or sit outside in the summery park tanning with your hot cocoa.
Of course, you can go for the classic hot chocolate, but the bar has much more to offer — from combinations with lemon peel, honey, chocolate cake, or if you’re feeling particularly adventurous – the hot chocolate beer (this I haven’t tried yet but maybe someday I’ll pluck up the courage!).
My personal favourite is the chilli hot chocolate, but it all depends on the level of strange you wish to sample! When I’m in the area, I will often make it one of my go-to-spots when I’m with friends or family. It is quite a small spot and is often crowded during the day, but it’s well worth it if you can get a spot. I mostly grab a takeaway and use it to shield myself as I continue through Grunnerløkka.
