Gryn means porridge in Norwegian and they take their porridge seriously at the recently opened spot. You build your porridge by choosing your base (including a quino option) and then adding your topping mix of choice. They have some fruity options and some more traditional Norwegian mixes.
In additional to porridge they also serve a variation on the traditional Norwegian waffle, both sweet and savoury. My favourite was with smoked salmon and horseradish cream for around 90kr. You can wash it all down with bottomless tea and coffee or the local super hipster cola, Tøyen Cola.
During eveningtime there is an extended menu, with chilli con carne and a type of Thai risotto among others, all around the 120kr mark. The bar wasn’t open when I visited but I’ll be sure to come back to try the cocktails from the same guys behind Himkok (open Friday and Saturday).
If you are in the area then this is a great spot for a quick lunch which is pretty healthy and won’t break the bank, a rare thing in Oslo!
Update – Gryn is now serving pizza each evening, not exactly porridge-based but still tasty.
