Hvaskjer is a large mixed-use venue in the cool Toshov neighbourhood, just north of Grunnerløkka. It houses cultural spaces, a restaurant, bar and a games room with shuffleboard (is there anywhere left in Oslo without a shuffleboard?).
The large restaurant on the ground floor is grill-focused and serves both smaller dishes to share and larger main courses. The sharing menu for example is about 400kr per person for a mix of ribs, oxtail stew and chicken nuggets and kept me pleasantly full. They also do a good veggie burger and even vegan tacos for those that are not meat-inclined.
The cocktail list is also worth a look, my particular favourite is the Seeing Eye Dog, with gin, lime, and ginger beer. As the evening progresses the mood shifts from restaurant to bar and the crowd moves between tables downstairs and the bar/dancefloor upstairs, where the helpful neon motto on the wall reminds you to have a good time while you can!
It’s a great spot for a group to spend a Saturday evening; just remember your ID, every time I’ve been there they have carded everyone in the group and it sucks to let that cramp your style!
