As the name might suggest, Liebling is a typical Berlin-style café; both the interior and the menu is a testament to that. The prices are much more budget friendly than at your regular Norwegian hang out, too – making a favorite amongst students, locals and tourists alike. The typical Liebling crowd is therefore a mix of artsy students from the nearby art academy, and early 30s mums (and dads) on maternity (paternity) leave.
In terms of what to order, the open-faced sandwiches are always a safe bet, with homemade toppings such as a very Instagram-friendly beet hummus. It’s very pink, indeed. The coffee is usually pretty good too, flown in from Berlin and its iconic roastery The Barn.
A good tip is to like the café on Facebook: it’s a great way to keep up to date on their events, like open mic night and one-off concerts.
In the summer months, also check out their sibling café St. Pauli Biergarten which is just around the corner. Otherwise, Liebling has a pretty sweet outdoor seating area as well, perfect for catching some sun or doing some people-watching in the hip Grunerløkka area.
