Parkteatret – On the golden strip

You’ll easily spot Parkteatret from across Olav Ryes Plass, it’s the vintage theatre lighting that brightens up the dark Norwegian winter nights. In summer, however, this street is called the golden strip, thanks to its magnificent location in the sun. This is where the young Løkka crowd head for their first “utepils” (alfresco beer), and a sidecar of vitamin D.

Apart from the great outdoor seating, where you’ll still find crowds of people in the colder months puffing away on their cigarettes, Parkteatret is also known for its charismatic bar and a great concert/club venue in the back. The venue also hosts film screenings, mostly locally produced short films, and they even organize events for the neighbourhoods growing toddler population. These go under the name Blårollinger.

Personally I find the bar crowds too fast on weekends, but it’s a favourite when meeting a friend for mid-week catch up.
