The summer of 2018 was my first summer in Paris, and given that it was particularly generous with sizzling temperatures, the quest for the best ice cream in town would be a daily affair. For me, however, that quest was over once I came across Il Gelato del Marchese.
Located around the corner from Saint-Germain market, this ice cream boutique and tea room offers a couple dozen artisanal gelato and sorbet tastes: from traditional stracciatella, vanilla, and chocolate, to decadent mustard, beetroot and ginger, or salmon. You may be tempted to an avocado sorbet, or tomato and basil, or parmesan, and perhaps even gorgonzola – in fact, it is possible to taste each one of them while you’re making your choice. Together with a crunchy homemade cornet, it is an absolute delight.
All sorbets are vegan, and own a certificate by Vegan Society. In 2019, Il Gelato del Marchese was included in the Registry of Italian Excellence. To me it is, indeed, Italian perfection in a scoop (or two).
