After a stressful day in the office (and I know you’re struggling with the January blues), I can always rely on the Coltrane to entice me out for a drink…
Peer into the cobblestoned alleyway lined with worn sofas and aged tables waiting to host countless ‘afterworks’ in an outdoor living room setting. Sandwiching the passage du pont aux biches near République (which is arguably convenient for just about anyone) is the star of the article, Le Coltrane and its partner in crime, Cosmo.
How do I explain the charm of this bar? I think it’s partly down to the comfortable seating and the charming, entertaining staff but it’s equally the convenience of being able to order tasty nibbles if the night decides to pick up. The bar serves up a decent range of cocktails whose list I have challenged on many occasions.
My top picks are:
1) the Cosmoconcombre; a refreshing, addictive concoction prepared by the charming, chatty resident barman. As the name would suggest, wedges of cucumber in a vodka-based cocktail splashed with a hint of Saint-Germain.
2) the Negroni; this cocktail needs no introduction. The ones here are GOOD. Trust me, I have sampled enough of these to have a strong, informed opinion.
P.S. If you fancy risking your life with a tipsy game of darts.. this is the place for you!
