As a go-to place, it’s the fine quality of the ‘egg & bacon’ roll which draws me in. It seems to be on sourdough bread and the egg is perfectly poached, serving you a perfectly rendered golden liquified yolk interior of the egg – without fail. Tip: from experience, and to the benefit of my local dry cleaner, I’ll just add that a napkin is certainly advised. I’ve got big eyes for the egg & bacon roll (check out the blog pic).

This place Les copains du faubourg has its local mascot – (the French word ‘mascot’ in English is actually ‘pet’) – a tender beast of an English bulldog breed, which I’d guess weighs in at a 25kg hulk. The motley mutt enjoys flailing flat-out on the ground just outside the place and the owner and baker occasionally pops out to check on the dog’s whereabouts; which is usually found comedically, self-body-slammed to the floor, blocking the doorway access.

This dog is pretty much the icon of the neighborhood and we see why come closing time, because once the metal shop shutter is pulled closed, there’s an artistic mural, spray-paint rendered of the said dog. It’s a joy to see. Check out a snapshot of the mural (pictured).
