I continue my love affair of this section of Old City (I’m looking at you, Rocket Fizz, ICI Cafe and Arch Street Friends Meeting …) with the cozy fashion collective at 323 Arch Street. The first time I stepped through the doorway I was greeted by the meditative whir of a sewing machine, muted by the soft fabrics hanging along the wall. I had stepped in only to browse, but something about the atmosphere seemed so warm and inviting I found myself pulling a couple dresses off the rack. 323 Arch Street Fashion Collective (323ASFC?) is one of those spaces that promotes interesting designs while still seeming comfortable and approachable. I’m thinking in particular of the popular zipper scarves. And the jewelry! I am completely obsessed with these bracelets, aka fairy dust bands. Vintage watch faces filled with reflective smashed glass; I love the philosophy and the aesthetic.
The apparel available is made in the store during normal shop hours. This means that if they’re out of a piece you love and they still have the fabric on hand, they’ll make one just for you. Outside of normal business hours, if a designer happens to be working inside, the shop is considered open for business and you are encouraged to peruse and meet the powerhouses behind local brands Lele and National Picnic.
My advice? Stop by to take a peek after coffee and macarons down the street; support local artisans and look cute while doing so.
