When I first moved to Philadelphia I wondered why there weren’t many ice cream stores in the city. I then discovered Capogiro and I quickly realized why. Many things don’t make it to the United States from Europe, but luckily this treat did. Capogiro serves up the best gelato you will find and they have been voted as having the best ice cream in the entire world by National Geographic in 2011. They have received praises from The New York Times, O Magazine, and even the first lady.
They make both gelato and sorbets using fresh local ingredients. Some of their flavors are a bit unconventional and I have found those to be my favorites. My favorite is the basil lime. I don’t see it often since their flavors change daily, but that just forces me to try some of their other rich and creamy flavors. They have three locations in the city and also sell the deliciousness in some grocery stores, as well as online. Be sure to check their website since they post what flavors they have available each day there.
