If you love pottery and ceramics like I do, the Clay Studio should be your first stop in Philadelphia! This spacious gallery, set in two adjoining storefront and on multiple floors, is the premier gallery for art from the kiln.
Since the mid ’70s, they have been a fixture in Old City, the epicenter of Philadelphia’s gallery scene. Stop in for a show, shop for pottery, or join one of their many classes. Events include date nights, when couples can bond over clay.
The Clay Studio stages exhibits of some of the leading artists in the medium and has an artist-in-residence program that keeps remarkable talent in house. From vases to tiles to cutting edge conceptual art, their shows are memorable.
Their shop sells some of the most beautiful vases and cups you have ever seen, along with other delicate handmade treasures. I struggle to leave without a new mug every time I go.
Check the website to see what’s on for your visit! The gallery stays open late for the neighborhood’s First Friday arts stroll, my favorite time to visit. They often host a pop-up beer garden and mark-down ceramics sale in their side lot for the occasion. It’s a nice party atmosphere!
