Philadelphia Independents (get it?) is my go-to stop for gifts. It’s a small boutique with artwork, housewares and jewelry hand made by local artists, many with a Philly theme. My favorite finds are the skyline pillows and the hanging terrariums. I recommend this shop if you’re visiting because they have handmade greeting cards and postcards, as well as tchotchkes and trinkets to take home as a souvenir.
It’s not the cheapest, with Philly themed pillows at $ 55 and coasters at $ 35, but the shop is in a nice spot in Old City and fun to browse. It’s surrounded by a ton of historic spaces in Old City as well as good spots to eat and drink, so you can definitely make an afternoon of it. The shopkeeper is friendly and informative about the artists, and the shop has a steady stream of customers without ever seeming noisy or cluttered.
It seems every Sunday I have the same routine – morning at the Arch Street Friends Meetinghouse, macarons at ICI, and then a quick stop in here…
