To be in Podgorica and not visit Crnogorsko Narodno Pozorište (CNP) or the Montenegrin National Theater would be lame, honestly. For me, theaters and cinemas have always been those kind of places which have a special energy, so I don’t miss opportunity to visit them and to enjoy their programs wherever I visit some new place.
Based in the capital city, CNP is a center of cultural events. The monthly repertoire consists of various Montenegrin and foreign plays, concerts and even festivals. The program of events can be found on the official web page. It’s important to know that tickets cannot be bought online yet, so it’s necessary to go straight to the ticket office. The place itself is maybe not one of the most impressive in the theater world but it is definitely worth visiting.
What I like especially about CNP are its frequent promotions with discounts, which can be very useful if you are on a budget.
Watching a play of a national theater is also an interesting insight into local culture, so even if you don’t understand the language, I highly recommend you pay a visit.
