One night, my girlfriend and I decided to search for a place to dine differently than usual in Porto. The name called our attention and we decided to try As 7 Maravilhas restaurant. The result is that I have to include it in the spotted “wonders”.
Since it was a “shot in the dark”, I must say I was well impressed at first glance. The environment of the centurial building is very romantic and “trashy” at the same time, providing a different atmosphere. The German employer, covered in tattoos but with such empathy and attention for his customers, was definitely something that called my attention. And then, the senior waiter, who happens to also be the owner, too.
The medieval appearance of its architecture combined with the traditional dishes or “tapas” such as “pimentos padrão” or the board of cheeses and sausages. Additionally, you have random “wonders” of international cuisine which vary every day! I’ve tried the Vietnam wrap (vegetables with a strong sauce wrapped in fresh lettuce) and the Russian soup (vegetable cream), both being very tasteful.
The drink options are various too. From the regular, craft & international beers, passing to a nice selection of Portuguese wines, to incredible kinds of brandies and whiskeys. If you are in the mood to be surprised by a different meal, this is the place to go. Although I find it excellent to go with your better half, it also has a small private room for up to ten friends, with the “Mexican altar”!
