As with all family gatherings, the topics of discussion veer from one extreme to another, and sometimes you learn some very useful information. I was luckily part of one such brilliant event, which went on way past what it should for a weeknight.
The main topic of discussion: Spotted by Locals. Sub-topic: my blogs. A dissection of my blogs took place, with each deciding on their favourite. The discussion progressed into “why don’t you write about…” and all kinds of things were suggested. Just like that, I learned about Hard Knock, an artisanal shop producing a carefully selected range of leather goods.
Today, finally, I was able to visit the recently opened store. And I loved it. Hard Knock is more than the name conveys. The smell of leather was heady and rich, contrasted by the minimalist white aesthetics of the store. Carefully displayed to show off their lines, weekend bags of durable fabric and leather, cross-body bags large enough to be useful, backpacks, wallets, glass cases, were waiting to be picked and taken home. The colours are also carefully selected as the artisan, Fadil Mujku, uses natural dyes; rich and earthy, ochre, deep green, burgundy-red, tan, navy, are what you’ll see at the store.
This is certainly a place to splash out on, especially if you are keen on handmade or custom-made items. It is also a place to find a thoughtful gift which will not break the bank yet will be unique, especially since they can be personalized.
