Mulberry trees – Free fruit around Prishtina

Before coming to Kosovo, mulberry trees were something I knew of only from nursery rhymes and silk production. It still seems amazing to me that this exotic fruit grows on trees that are in so many public places in the city, so that in summer you can stain your fingers and your mouths as much as you like with this delicious fruit (which tastes a bit like a blackberry) full of anti-oxidants – for free! Here are some of the places that you can eat white or black mulberries in Prishtina:

*the grounds of the Philological Faculty (opposite the Cathedral)

*the grounds of the Dielli kindergarten in Bregu i Diellit/ Sunnyhill

*the garden of the Door 74 cafe

*between the Interior Ministry and the Stadium

*by the clock tower, at the entrance of the alley which leads to Elena Gjika school

*in Gërmia Park, just after the swimming pool

*on Bulevardi Nënë Terezë by the Riza Company

*in the grounds of the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments

*Ethnological Museum garden
