The area of Grizinkalns is simply amazing. Lots of wooden houses from the 19th century, quiet streets and almost no tourists at all.
Koka Rīga is a Centre dedicated to the renovation of wooden buildings. It is located in a typical workers’ dwelling house that has been renovated. The Centre is divided into several areas – there is a museum, a room for seminars and exhibitions and an information Centre. From time to time flea markets are held here. If you are interested the dates are posted on Facebook.
For a long time I was avoiding the vicinity of Grizinkalns as it was considered to be a bit dangerous. Now I look at it like a hidden gem and I am starting to enjoy it with every new walk I take there.
The neighborhood is by all means worth a visit and if you need or want more guidance about it, then Koka Rīga is the spot to seek out.
