Built in 2006, this pedestrian bridge over one of the busiest highways in Latvia is just an ordinary bridge that allows people to safely cross the 3-lane highway to Jūrmala. While it is arguable how efficient this bridge is for the people who live there, for me it is a nice place to relax and clear my head after a long day.
This pedestrian bridge becomes magical when the sun goes down, which makes autumn and winter the best time of the year to visit it because it gets dark early then. I like to be there when the traffic is the heaviest, and that usually is around 16:00 – 19:00 on a weekday evening. Then I can watch the endless stream of headlights and taillights and listen to the hundreds of cars passing by below, which has a very calming effect on me. Also, this is a wonderful place for long exposure photography.
This place can be easily reached by taking the buses 4Z, 8, 44 or 53 and getting off at the bus stop “Gramzdas iela”. However, I advise you to be careful and keep your eyes open because this might not be the safest place in Riga when it gets too late!
