I had passed by this bar with the large windows and the crowded summer terrace too many times. Its name is “Three men in a boat”. It opened a long time ago and always was a favorite among locals in the neighborhood. I kind of knew it was a classic Latvian sport bar – good, not pricey food, lots of beers, nice selection of hard spirits to wash the large portions down and many TV screens showing all the major sport events where local teams or Latvian sportsmen are taking part.

It’s a perfect spot to spend an evening after a working day, but I had been passing it by year after year just because it was too close to my apartment. Strange and silly thing, if I think about it now.

I’m glad that this is history now. I can proudly announce that this spot was spotted! I was surprised that they serve “Zoltners”, a beer from a small brewery in Zemgale – it is rare a thing to find it here in Riga. Another thing is their rather broad menu with cheap prices and good quality bar food. And the most important thing that makes a bar great, the atmosphere – lively and fun.

Three men in a boat is also good company to start the evening before heading to other iconic bars in the neighborhood like Chomsky and Aleponija. Enjoy!
