Some of the best restaurants in Rijeka are located near the main local market, and Placa 51 is no exception – it even has the reference in its name, placa translating to food market in the local dialect.
It’s a lovely bistro with two open patios on the sidewalk across the street from the marina. I usually go there for an early lunch, as they have a great daily menu based on fresh seasonal produce. All ingredients are sourced directly from the nearby market and small local producers, and the selection of dishes changes depending on the availability of certain foods.
If you have more time to spare, I would recommend opting for the Chef’s table, a fantastic service available after 5 PM. You will get to enjoy a lavish meal of five courses minimum, sat near the kitchen and watching the chef work his magic. Course after course, watch the mouthwatering dishes come to life, and the chef will be happy to answer all the questions you might have about the ingredients or the menu in general. It’s the first restaurant in Rijeka to introduce the Chef’s table concept, so don’t miss the opportunity for such a fantastic, authentic gourmet experience!
