Located in the cute hipster-chic neighborhood of Monti, Al Vino Al Vino is an intimate and relaxed neighborhood wine bar that is perfect for a pre- or after-dinner drink. There are about 20 options for wines by the glass which rotate constantly but if you come with another person definitely order a bottle from the long list of wines, all of which are moderately priced. I love the Tufaliccio, a red wine from the Carpinetti winery in Lazio (and it’s only € 14!). After dinner you can stop by and try some of the spirits.
The small plates are delicious, especially the caponata: a flavorful sweet and sour eggplant dish which melts in your mouth. You can also order various deli items such as sundried tomatoes, olives, meatballs or mixed cheeses and cold-cuts. The best seats are in the front room where you can watch the stylish locals from the large windows in the wine bar. I also appreciate the decor of this enoteca, which is simple but warm with beautiful grape mosaics on the tables and bottles lining the walls.
Al Vino Al Vino lies on Via dei Serpenti so you can take a walk down the street to see the Colosseum afterwards or stop by the “piazzetta” to mingle with locals sitting around the fountain in the heart of Monti.
