Thank god this record store isn’t too close to where I live otherwise I would have probably already spent my whole university tuition fees, and Ganesha knows how much more, on records and t-shirts. Everytime I walk in I get all wound-up all of a sudden and just want to buy every single item in this store, including the ones I don’t even know are there.
What can I say, Hellnation is without doubt one of my favourite stores in Rome, also because it’s more than just a simple record store. They sell vinyls, mostly, obviously, but other than that you’ll find t-shirts, CDs, books, posters, pins and much more there.
The only constant “motive” is that it is all centered on musical and political subcultures, and even more so on the Roman forms and bands that represent those. From HipHop to Metal, from Punk to New Wave to football and political comics. Also the people working there are extremely helpful, and if you’re being a nice boy or girl they will also be happy to play the vinyls you’re interested in in the store or place orders for you.
Looking for that old Blondie album that hasn’t been produced for over 20 years now, or want a t-shirt of that Roman ska-band you saw last night at that concert? Well, the Hellnation Record store is where you want to strike. In order to do that simply take the 3 or 19 tram line and get off at the Regina Margherita/Nomentana stop.
