BAKKIT is a modern bakery and café that's quickly become a local favorite since opening in July 2023. It was founded by sisters Mercedes and Melissa Roggen, Mercedes being the winner of "Heel Holland Bakt" 2023, the Dutch version of The Great British Bake Off, a popular baking competition where amateur bakers compete in weekly challenges to be crowned the best baker in the Netherlands. BAKKIT has a wide selection of different pastries, my favorite being the caramel cookie, but the place is best known for its “Rotterdamse Rol”, a croissant roll filled with pistachio cream and coated in white chocolate and crushed nuts.
Just across the street of the café they have the BAKKIT Creamery offering artisanal ice cream using seasonal ingredients and have all different kinds of flavors. Both places have a very clean aesthetic, and it's a perfect place to read, chat with friends, or just take a mindful break. It’s clear that BAKKIT isn’t just about food and drinks, it’s about creating thoughtful spaces that feel good to be in.
