In Dutch the word ‘Burgertrut’, has a negative meaning (in short, burgertrut is a conservative, abiding by the rules, stiff person) but in this case, it’s a great play on words as this (nomadic) place serves great burgers!
I say “nomadic” because Burgertrut has moved around town about 4 times already, their last spot was located near the Markthal at the back part. Now it’s time to check out their new address which they share with Roodkapje near the central station in a light glass/steel corner building.
Burgertrut is part of Roodkapje.org which can be visited next door and all profits go to support their arts and music program, so this is a very good reason to eat here!
The menu offers tasty vegan, veggie or organic beef burgers, soups, salads and scrumptious homemade cakes (also vegan ones). My favourite is the Kapsalon made of seitan and loaded up with veggies and cheese, yum! (The “Kapsalon” dish is another story and ‘invented’ here in Rotterdam: Read the Wiki explanation. It’s great after-clubbing grub too!)
Check their specials on the wall. If you’re not too hungry, there are small side dishes available.
As for thirsty people, there’s Fritz Kola soft drinks, tea and coffee, beer, wine and cider.
