Witte de Withstraat has been my neighbourhood since I came to live in Rotterdam. One of the reasons I love this street is the presence of art galleries. One of the most interesting galleries for me is Ecce gallery. Situated amongst second-hand stores and ice-cream shops, this is the place where I will end up when I want to buy presents for special occasions. And even if it is closed, I will always stop by and check the beautiful glass window for new arrivals. At the Ecce gallery there is variety amongst affordable designer objects and contemporary art, that are showcased effortlessly in a carefully curated interior.
Young Dutch artists and product designers are exhibited here. Such as the designer of the “oh how beautiful you are” mirror with the message that reminds the beholder to daily repeat this uplifting message to themselves.
What I like the most though, is the fact that the gallery sees Art as part of the domestic interior, therefore one can find a selection of great quality furniture as well. moreover, that the owner Charles de Roo is more than happy to help and tell beautiful stories behind every object in his gallery.
