The northern part of Rotterdam is getting more attention every year. First the development at the old Hofplein train station (check the Station Hofplein article), followed by the Luchtsingel connecting it with the center (check the Project Luchtsingel article). For more than a year now Hoofdkantoor (Headquarters) has been bringing us a decent cup of coffee from the brand Man met Bril. According to Esquire it’s the best coffee bar in the Netherlands. One of the bigger Dutch newspapers named Hoofdkantoor the place to get coffee. No better way to start your Saturday morning than with a good espresso.
I guess one of the reasons why they became the best is because they don’t just serve any espresso. They hold a range of different blends, each of them different in taste. Just ask the barista and let him or her know what you like, they will help you pick and prepare a perfect espresso. The owner visits his suppliers himself and invests in their business to make sure he is able to serve the best to the clients. Check out this video to get an idea about it.
The bar itself is located underneath what once was called ‘de Hofpleinlijn’ a train line from Rotterdam to The Hague and Scheveningen. A piece of history. Now parts of the line are located underground and rerouted to the Central Station. Another part is refurbished into a metro line towards The Hague.
