This spot is located underneath a train track once used by the Dutch Railways to connect Rotterdam with The Hague and Schevening along the beach, the so called ‘Hofpleinlijn’. The line has been closed since 2002 and since 2010 fully operational again but now underground and having The Hague Central Station as terminal station. The buildings placed under the tracks were sold and rented to various entrepreneurs. Hoofdkantoor took a shot and turned the place into a cool coffee bar with an industrial look. They also use the bar the burn the beans what creates a great aroma.
Hoofdkantoor (Headquarters) serves coffee made from the beans of the brand Man met Bril, nowadays a respected brand in Rotterdam and around. Hoofdkantoor holds a range of different blends from different countries, each of them different in taste. Just ask the barista and let him or her know what you like, they will help you pick and prepare a perfect espresso. The owner visits his suppliers himself and invests in their business to make sure he is able to serve the best to their clients. Check out this video to get an idea about it.
Hoofdkantoor has expanded the shop a couple of times last year and now have enough space for a decent kitchen too. If you visit Hoofdkantoor during weekdays you can order the set breakfast, a decent breakfast for a decent price.
