Rotterdam is a good place to be if you like your food after a night of drinking. There are plenty of shawarma places, and of course your obvious fast-food giants to go to (the McDonald’s just around the corner from me is open 24 hours a day, and turns into a fascinating kind of mayhem after midnight) but there are plenty of other options, my favorite being Hung Kee, also known as “De Nachtchinees” (The Night-time Chinese).
During the day, this place looks just like any typical Chinese restaurant that you can find all over the city. The good thing about Hung Kee however is that it is open every day till way past midnight. (till 06:30 on weekends and 05:30 during the week!). Also, it is situated right in the middle of the Witte de Withstraat, where you will find loads of bars, so you don’t have to go far! But even if you have been partying somewhere else, Hung Kee is worth walking a couple of extra minutes to.
Whereas the food might not be super special under normal circumstances (I’m not sure as I’ve only ever been here after midnight) it tastes extremely fantastic after a couple of drinks, and on weekends it is always full of people enjoying a well-deserved late night meal (chicken sate, sui kau soup, crispy pork, and much much more) before it is time for bed. Believe me, you will sleep really good after a meal at Hung Kee. Good night!
