Ever since I changed jobs, I have to cross the Erasmusbridge on a daily basis — for some reason always with a headwind. While cycling down the bridge you can get a glimpse of an old factory along abandoned docks. Even though the area is being built up from scratch again and many building have been torn down in the last years, The Maassilo, an old grain factory, is still active. Not as a grain factory anymore though. It has turned into a party venue.
The construction of the site started in 1906 and quickly became the biggest grain storage silo in Europe, able to store 20,000 tons of grain. Somewhere in the ’90s it was decided to store the grain elsewhere. The machines are gone, the grain is gone but a DJ booth and speakers came and a lot of party peeps took over. I still remember the first time I went there, almost 13 years ago. I’m getting old.
Whether you like techno, dance or RnB music, you can find them all at the Maassilo. Just make sure you check their website to get to know the agenda. You can also buy your tickets online to prevent queuing. Depending on the event you can party in the huge areas downstairs or at Factory010 in the top of the building. Both will do just fine!
