ROAR – Rotterdam Art Ride – Join the ride

Last year’s biketour I organised as a guide for the MoMo festival was about the history of mural art to street art nowadays, which you can find/see here in several parts of the town.

Well, get ready to grab a bike to check out the new street art project which got made for all to see for the upcoming years: ROAR, Rotterdam Art Ride.

Foundation Mesh and Marjon v/d Linde set up this plan and they received a grant from the municipality to execute this big art project in the south part of Rotterdam.

The art work is done on pillars which support the metro viaduct and are between the Rijnhaven and Maashaven stops.

18! pillars were painted by (inter)national artists like e.g IAMEELCO, Oko176Nacho Eterno, duo Bier&Brood and Daan Botlek from 5 – 9 June 2018.
Check the website’s list of the artists.

The project also got local kids from age 8 – 18 involved to join with the artists and have them work on designs as 4 pillars were available for them. This is a collaboration with NIFFO Gallery as it has earned an important place at the Afrikaanderwijk for youngsters set up by Zoë Cochia.

The murals will remain on the pillars for a period of 5 years.

More street art projects are also curated by MaisonSavantrotterdamstreetartmuseum, Make It Happen and ReWriters who have a handy app to help you walk/bike some routes to see these murals.

Come (to the Afrikaanderwijk) & see for yourself!
