St.Petersburg seems to be the classy city. It’s a true story with several exceptions as usual. The Vasilievsky Island, the historical heart of St. Pete, has one of the greatest museums of contemporary arts I have ever seen: Erarta. I would say Erarta presents the form of what a modern museum should look like. Apart from the collection of the modern Russian artists, there are also halls for cinema and concerts, lectures and workshops. So something interesting and creative always happens in Erarta. You can easily spend 4-5 hours there, which might be a point as the entrance tickets are rather pricey.
When I visited this place for the first time, I was curious about why it is called that. Why it is Erarta? My thoughts were that it was some abstract word. In fact, there are two words locked in the title: era and art, meaning it is referring to the era of the art. Beautiful explanation.
One more personal tip: do not miss the Erarta cafe, they have amazing eclairs. I know a guy for whom these eclairs sometimes become the reason to visit this museum.
