The city center of Saint Petersburg offers many places for coffee lovers. Some of these coffee shops mix good flavors with interesting views from their windows or some curious designs on their walls. But Espresso Bike doesn’t need any of these at all. It is hidden in the basement of a 19th century palace now converted into a gallery on Kazanskaya street 7, just steps from Nevsky avenue and Kazan Cathedral, which has given its name to the street.
With so many aristocratic buildings from Imperial times, this combination of styles permits some glimpses of the past be seen in the staircases, such as the big lamps, and it’s surrounded by modern bars, restaurants and other stores. But is in the underground where it really looks like time has stopped, and the labyrinth of old brick corridors without decoration was unusual.
There are other stores, and we had to follow the smell to find Espresso Bike for first time. There is coffee, of course, Peruvian chocolate, ice creams, rolls and more. All in a very relaxed ambience that made us to forget about what was going on over our heads outside.
