Krakatau is an edgy urban brand which originates from St Petersburg. Its slogan is ‘antagonist survival kit’ and, if you spend any time in the city, soon you’ll realise that clothing is about keeping the elements at bay and keeping track of the ever-changing weather conditions. Of course, looking great at the same time helps, and Krakatau wear is both edgy and stylish.
If you just take a look at the website, you soon get a feel of the brand – and the photos were taken at the post-industrial port of Sevkabel (one of the city’s go-to hip destinations of the moment). There are a few shops in the city – in Loft Project ‘Etazhi’ – a concept cluster on Ligovsky Prospekt, and on Zagorodny. I have noticed this shop being renovated recently – as you pass now you realise why – there is a huge screen displaying the clothes, and advertising them, built into the front of the building.
The interior is a lesson in stark, minimalist design. Bowl-cut short-trousered staff in platformed trainers will be happy to assist, so if you’re a self-confessed fashionista and want to pick up something other than another boring coat this winter, then Krakatau is the place for you. It’s also a chance to see one of the many exciting things happening on the St Petersburg home-made fashion scene.
