“Simply wine”, this place in Saint Petersburg is called in Russian: prosto vino. That is true and not true at the same time. First, owners have great deals with wine importers, so you can have glasses or bottles of wine (read which glasses are available at the moment on the mirror inside) at surprisingly affordable prices.
Second, it’s not only about wine. They have amazing coffee (the owners also manage Kofe na Kuhne and Bolshe Kofe), rich food and many snacks starting from meat or cheese plates and going up to thick hot chocolate (yes, I insist that it’s a snack, come try it first).
For me, Prosto Vino is all about the atmosphere. It’s nice and quiet during the daytime — and crowded and warm in the middle of the night.
Be sure to book a table by phone, especially if it’s Friday night.
This wine cellar is located in the basement, so mind your step! And be careful with that door, sometimes it’s hard to open it because of the windy weather, that’s normal.
